Hello, I'm Kerry-Ann and I'm on the journey of self-love. This is a mix of "fake it 'til you make it", Law of Attraction, and genuinely teaching yourself positivity and self-love.
If you frequent my blog you'll notice a running theme of mine is to do things efficiently. Just doing something isn't enough, I have to do it five times over and with a game plan for it all.
So here's how I got affirmations to work for me (without taking too much time out of my day for it);
Find Affirmation Videos
Depending on what affirmations you are needing, find the right video for you on YouTube. Maybe even find a Podcast or audio file on a music site but the crux of this point is to find someone else saying what you need to hear.
Once you have acquired the videos/audio simply play it in the background whenever you have time. Whether you're driving, doing work, cooking or whatever else; if you have the space to play it then play it.
Even if you aren't 100% focused on it, the point is it being absorbed. It is optional to repeat the affirmations after they are said, but only if you can.
(I won't make this a separate point but feel free to listen to it while you are falling asleep/are asleep. I don't know if you being asleep does anything but I do know what you do just before sleep has an impact on you.)
Write It Out
So now you have two options; use the affirmations you found in the audio or make up your own. When making your own just write "I" statements that you want to be true/want youself to believe. An example of my own is "I am perfect just the way I am." or "I am very smart."
So take the affirmations you ave chosen and put pen to paper. So you can either write out on a random piece of paper and make an effort to look at it regularly or place the written words strategically.
Examples are placing sticky notes reassuring you about how beautiful you are (which you are) on your mirror or affirmations about your smarts on the inside of your school books. This is so before the negative thoughts slip in, or if they do slip in, your bad-thought negative-vibe fighting affirmations are only ONE CALL AWAY (yes, I did say that in my head as if Charlie Puth sang it.)
Convince Yourself and Believe It
So this part is kind of tricky. It's got a 'fake it 'til you make it' kind of feel to it, but it works.
When you hear the affirmations or read them, accept them. Tell yourself, "yes I believe that is true." and DO NOT let self deprecation into your mind, if it tries to sneak in (even as a funny joke) stop your thought before it can be finished and move on with your day.
A good way of doing this is staring yourself in the eyes, with the help of a mirror, and saying it to yourself. (An on the fly trick, whenever you pass a mirror just stop and say one or two. You don't have to set aside time for this.)
Surround Yourself with Positivity
So yeah, I deleted my social media and made new accounts. Maybe you don't have to do that, may you just have to unfollow a few people and watch a few kitten videos to change your YouTube feed but you gotta do it for maximum results.
Trust me, as great as a meme is, opening an app to see sunshine, positivity and kittens brings way more joy than anything else.
I'll elaborate on this some other time in more detail but just make sure your social media isn't making you back track. Ensure that opening up your social media, talking to the people in your life and making use of electronics puts a smile on your face. You don't need toxicity in your life, you are in control of (most) of what you perceive and spend your time doing.
Alternative Method (LOA)
So another way you could go about this is Law of Attraction route. I'm skeptical of it if I'm honest but if you want to try this you totally can. This includes things like scripting (basically writing your wants and dreams in diary entries as if they have already happened) or vision boarding (making collages of pictures representing what it is you want to attract).
There's a spiritual aspect to it and a scientific aspect to it so atheists can join in, too, if they'd like to take their affirmations one step further and use the above to write as if they already are/believe what their affirmations say or make collages to pay homage to your affirmations.
Conclusion
There's my few ways I try be more thorough when it comes to affirmations because, even if I thought they were useless not that long ago, I am willing to try it out and, to be honest, it's going good so far. There's lots of articles, YouTube videos, books and whatnot on this topic so feel free to do way more research beyond me (there's even an array of useful free apps, too.)
Just know you really are a wonderful, beautiful, smart and talented human being <3
Sending lots of love, lights and hugs,
Kerry-Ann
